Permanent residence permit
Issued by: Danish Immigration Service (Udlændingestyrelsen) / SIRI under the Aliens Act
Required for: All ordinary-route naturalisation applicants — the permit must be held for the qualifying period immediately before the bill is tabled
Nordic-citizen declarants under statsborgerskab ved erklæring are exempt from the permanent-residence-permit requirement; the declaration channel uses only the residence-period rule.
Prøve i Dansk 3 (PD3) or Prøve i Dansk 2 (PD2)
Danish-language test certificate
Required for: Ordinary-route naturalisation applicants — must be valid at the moment the parliamentary bill is tabled
Mapping: Prøve i Dansk 3 is the standard level; Prøve i Dansk 2 is the lower level that applies as a substitute under the self-sufficiency carve-out
Nordic-citizen declarants are not required to take the language test.

Administered by: Approved language schools and test providers, twice yearly (typically June and November)
Required for: Ordinary-route naturalisation applicants; Nordic-citizen declarants are exempt
Children under twelve are exempt. Long-term disability dispensations are assessed by the Naturalisation Committee on the basis of submitted medical evidence.

Required for: Applicants requesting a disability-based dispensation from a statutory condition
Standards: Must be current within the recency window fixed by ministry guidance and must be from a physician; psychologist-only documentation is not accepted for mental-illness dispensation

Required for: Children under eighteen included in a parent's naturalisation application or in a Nordic-citizen declaration

Employment-history documentation
Required for: Ordinary-route naturalisation applicants — covering the qualifying employment-record window
Acceptable forms: Employer letters, payslips, or tax statements demonstrating ordinary full-time employment or self-employment for the qualifying period and weekly hours
Nordic-citizen declarants are not required to submit employment-history documentation.

MitID digital identity
Required for: Signing the digital application and the declaration of allegiance and loyalty at submission
Alternative: Paper procedure available for applicants without MitID — for example, residents abroad, residents of the Faroe Islands or Greenland without MitID, or applicants represented by a solicitor
