Renewing Your UAE Residence Visa
Document Checklist
Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
Required: Original with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank pages
Cost: Free
If your passport expires within 6 months, renew it at your embassy BEFORE starting the visa process. An expired passport will block the entire application
Current residence visa (expiring or expired)
Required: Copy of current visa page in passport
Cost: Free
You can renew up to 30 days before expiry. Per u.ae, UAE residents are granted longer flexible grace periods that reach up to 6 months (according to resident category) to remain in the country after the residence permit is cancelled or has expired

Emirates ID
Required: Original and copy
Cost: N/A (already issued)
Your Emirates ID renewal is usually processed alongside your visa renewal
Medical fitness certificate
Where to get: Government-approved medical center (DHA centers in Dubai, SEHA in Abu Dhabi)
Required: Original certificate
Cost: AED 270-350
Includes blood test (for infectious diseases) and chest X-ray. Results take 24-48 hours. Walk-in at most centers — arrive early to avoid queues

Tenancy contract or accommodation proof
Where to get: Ejari certificate (Dubai) or Tawtheeq (Abu Dhabi) from your tenancy registration
Required: Copy of registered tenancy contract
Cost: Free (if already registered)
If you live in employer-provided housing, a company accommodation letter works instead
